Dear PASA, Thank you, thank you, thank you for bring the Tim Robbin's production of "1984" to Lafayette. The production was not only provocative, thought provoking and highly entertaining, but also an opportunity to be pushed out of your comfort zone and experience theater that usually is only available to those that can afford to fly to New York or L.A. The highly skilled actors brought us an incredible evening of theater that most of us would have otherwise never had the opportunity to experience, not to mention the importance it was for the young people of our community to witness as well. Bravo to Jackie Lyle and her staff at PASA for going out and bringing to Lafayette a series that is diverse, intelligent and greatly entertaining. My only disappointment was the amount of empty seats and those that couldn't allow themselves to expand their minds and left at intermission,,, I guess if there had been a band and free beer they would have stayed. And Queen Latifah... there hasn't been anything in this area including the Cajun Dome that compares to the quality of the performance last night. Another extraordinary performance that our little community got to experience at a moderate cost, that otherwise would have passed us by. Whatever Jackie Lyle and her staff are doing to secure these projects should be greatly appreciated by our community. This has been and incredible series thus far and I for one am anticipating with great enthusiasm the rest of the series, the extra events and certainly whatever Jackie and PASA bring to us in the future. As a professional dancer/singer/actor myself that moved back to the area a few years ago, it's so encouraging and exciting to see PASA not only bring great entertainment to Lafayette, but entertainment of such a high quality. Thanks for taking risks and waking up our Performing Arts Society. Brother Smith Dear PASA, Words fail me as I try to explain how important the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana and Aquila were to us last year. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita changed life as we knew it, PASA and Aquila gave us an escape and a re-focus. Because the performing arts facility in Lafayette was filled with Katrina evacuees and the alternate facility could not accommodate all of those with reservations, a special show was scheduled just for our school. The stage was a much smaller one and the equipment was not as technical as they are accustomed to using, yet Aquila's show was flawless and professional. Our school had taken in quite a number of displaced Katrina students, and this was their first field trip with us. In my classes, Hamlet was the first project that the New Orleans students were able to start and complete. They got to know OC classmates on the bus ride and shared their excitement with our students. How wonderful it was to be able to bring live theatre to all of the English classes, and my art students were equally involved with their study of stage and set design as well as costume and makeup. We were so impressed with the Aquila Theatre's use of moveable sets and props that we designed our Senior Play set to move on wheels. Furthermore, the actors and actresses actually choreographed and synchronized the movement of furniture and other props off and on stage as they had seen the Hamlet performers do. Cindy Pitre Teacher at Opelousas Catholic High School Dear PASA, I just wanted to thank you both for helping us to get such great tickets [to Diavolo, Feb. 1, 2006] and such a great deal. The students (and I) LOVED it (I think one is planning on running away to join the company), and seeing their classmate perform was inspirational for them. It really showed them that exciting opportunities are out there for them. I also want to thank y'all for bringing in interesting artists to Louisiana. Your company allows us opportunities not found anywhere else in the region, and I want you to know that it is appreciated. Heather Gilbert Heather, We're glad this was a good experience for your students. Whenever possible, we will make special arrangements to get student groups into performances, and frequently couple that with backstage tours and other opportunities to interact with the artists. Thanks for joining us! --PASA Dear PASA, We recently attended the evening performance of Cirque Eloize. WOW! What a show! We purchased 10 tickets and took our office staff and spouses. The show was fabulous!! The multi-talented performers were awesome. Thank you, PASA, for bringing such fine entertainment to this area. My husband and I also saw Roberta Flack recently--another great performance! Thanks. -- Georgette M. Dugas Dear Georgette, Great to hear you have been enjoying PASA's performances! I've passed on your message to the artists, and to all of our staff who have worked so hard to make these performances possible. --Jacqueline Lyle, Executive Director for PASA Dear PASA, I attended the Flamenco/Vivo performance last night. WOW!! What a beautiful display of cultural dance - the music, the costumes, the footwork. These performers are incredibly talented. By the way, I am the person who wrote a few months ago about having Mario Frangoulis perform at the Heymann. -- Liz Touchet Dear Liz, We loved having the opportunity to present Flamenco/Vivo and are glad you enjoyed the company as much as we did. And thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for Mario Frangoulis. We are continaully looking for artists to bring to our community, not only at the Heymann Performing Arts Center but at other venues in south Louisiana. Sincerely, Jacqueline Lyle, Executive Director |
